Abstract

Objective: To determine the frequency of abnormal umbilical artery Doppler in patients with intrauterine growth restricted fetuses and to determine the frequency of good APGAR score in intrauterine growth restricted fetuses with abnormal umbilical artery Doppler delivered within 26 days.

Study Design: Descriptive Cross sectional study Place and Duration of Study: Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Rai Foundation Teaching Hospital Sargodha. Duration of study from Feb to July 2025.

Methodology: The study was conducted in Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department of Rai Foundation Teaching Hospital Sargodha from Feb’25 to July’25. Total of 150 patients with intrauterine growth restriction fulfilling inclusion and exclusion criteria were identified by non-probability consecutive sampling technique. They were enrolled to determine the frequency of abnormal umbilical artery Doppler in growth restricted fetuses and to determine the frequency of good APGAR score in intrauterine growth restricted fetuses with abnormal umbilical artery Doppler delivered within 26 days.

Results: In this study, out of 150 cases, 60.67% (n=91) were between 18 – 30 years while 39.33 % (n=59) were between 31 – 45 years of age, mean±SD was calculated as 28.34±5.77 years. Frequency of abnormal umbilical artery Doppler in patients with intrauterine growth restricted fetuses was recorded in 42.67% (n=64), out of them 40.63% (n=26) had good APGAR score in intrauterine growth restricted fetuses with abnormal umbilical artery Doppler delivered within 26 days while 59.37% (n=38) had no good APGAR score.

Conclusion: We concluded that the frequency of abnormal umbilical artery Doppler in patients with intrauterine growth restricted fetuses is higher and among these cases, the frequency of good APGAR score is not significantly higher. So the outcome of this study may be used to change the protocols for future patients and their obstetrical outcome.
